Hast-o-Bood Part-12

Chapter Two
The concept of patriotism and nationality

The historic sermon of Hazrat Ja'far ibn Tayyar in the open court in response to the objections of the Jews of Makkah in the court of Shah Najashi on behalf of the Muhajireen during the reign of the Holy Prophet himself points out in the open court the fact that Allah has blessed our nation [tribe] A prophet was sent. It is as if Allah (swt) chose His Prophet (swt) from His people [tribe] for the betterment of His servants. Sub-Surah Al-Hujurat, Chapter 26 of the Qur'an al-Hakim, can be presented as a definite and clear proof of the existence and composition of the nations [tribes]. The guidance is from the Almighty:

Translation: O people, We created you from a male and a female, so that you may know your tribes and one another. The most honorable of you is the one who is pious and more pious.

In this verse,  Almighty Allah states the mutual identity of different nations as the reason for the formation of nationality and community, but determines the basis of nobility and piety. Unnecessary pride in one's own race, family and nation. It is considered contrary to piety to consider another family, nation, family or individual as inferior or inferior due to racial prejudice.

The Prophet of Islam himself, who was sent for the betterment of the whole world, started his great mission with his family, tribe and nation, and this was also the will of Almighty Allah. In Islam, the concept of a single ummah is fundamental and the same point is stated by Hazrat Allama Muhammad Iqbal (may Allah have mercy on him):

Break the color and smell and get lost in the nation
Neither Turani nor Iranian nor Afghani remained

How could this unit be implemented? The only form of this was the individual and national reform of people divided into different groups, nationalities  [tribes] and categories. And these different nationalities [tribes] came into being for the purpose of recognizing each other under the command of Allah. Therefore, the history of nations and nationalities [tribes] is limited to mere knowing and recognizing, and this ideology does not in any way contradict the imagination of the formation of the Nation of Islam.

Islam has not said anything against the protection of lineage. Rather, it recognizes the need for families and tribes for the purpose of mutual acquaintance and introduction. The use of this hadith of Tirmidhi in order to be aware of one's own lineage will guarantee the usefulness of this humble work. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

Translation: Learn the knowledge of your lineage so that you can connect your relationship through it. Of course, treating one's relatives creates love in the family, which leads to increase in wealth and age.
