Chapter Three
The meaning of the word Rajput and the initial conditions of the Mangral nation

In exchange for the arrest of Raja Agar Khan of Rajouri, Sardar Gulab Singh Baradar [brother] Mian Dhan Singh Deoriwala was given jagirs in the Jammu region. In June 1820, Moti Ram was removed from the post of Governor and Maharaja Ranjit Singh appointed Hari Chand Nalwa as the Governor of Kashmir. But as a result of his harshness and harassment of his subjects, he too was deposed in December 1820 and Diwan Moti Ram was again made the Governor of the State.

In those days, the condition of the people within the state was unsatisfactory. The constant invasions of the Sikh army, the snatching away and the disgrace of the noble and influential families for their loyalty to the former Afghan rulers was a daily occurrence. This process continued till the complete occupation of Punjab and the state of Jammu and Kashmir by the British. The dissatisfaction of the day led to the displacement of many residents of the state and in those days the beacon of the Rajput Mangral family, Rai Abdul Hakim, had to leave his beloved homeland with all his family:
